Santa Barbara Theater is a great place to see a show. It's actually an old Vallarta cantina, which we turned into a pretty nifty cabaret-style venue. Our seating capacity is 90 and though we've packed the house with more people than that, we try to limit ticket sales to between 70 and 80--no small task when a red-hot show is in the lineup. And all the more reason to buy tickets early.

Having to live with what we've got, we were nonetheless pleased to discover that a small venue can actually enhance the viewer's entertainment experience. Not only does the audience get the opportunity to enjoy some darn good productions, they get to see them up close and personal. Time and again our customers enthuse about the "intimate setting" at Santa Barbara. In many instances, the audience is as much part of the show as the performers!

The most frequently asked question-comment we get from customers is, "Where does the talent come from? They are marvelous performers!"

Without a doubt, the performers are marvelous. Some of them are ex-professionals and some still perform professionally back home. Many of them are experienced amateurs who love theater and the chance to strut their stuff. More than a few are novices and would-be singers or actors or dancers who've discovered an outlet at Santa Barbara to test their artistic talents. Together they comprise a close-knit theatrical family, and all of them work their butts off to put on a good show.

There's not a bad seat in the house at Santa Barbara, no "black wall" separating the cast from the audience. The up close and personal experience is what makes Santa Barbara such a great place to see a show.

But it still comes as a surprise to most of our customers to learn that practically every member of the cast and crew really do live in Puerto Vallarta. Many of them live here year-round while others make Vallarta their home for five or six months during the tourist season. Most are expatriates from America and Canada, though we've attracted some amazingly gifted Mexican locals, as well.

Wherever they come from or whatever their reason for living here, we are fortunate to have such a stock of talented entertainers on hand to stage so many top-notch shows
